Alkali Metals In Water

2 comments:

  1. I had a science teacher that wanted to impress the class by placing an extra large piece of sodium in a pitre dish with water. Instead of a small violent reaction, the sodium scooted around the perimeter for a few seconds, launched into the air and exploded like a fireworks rocket at the ceiling.

We were impressed. He had a huge "oh shit" smile that lasted for a few minutes.

  2. Jess, that wasn't exactly a controlled explosion, then.
